Ernst Grünfeld introduced ...d5 against the fianchetto structures in 1922 and promptly beat future world champion Alekhine with it. Thirteen-year-old Bobby Fischer's 'Game of the Century' against Donald Byrne — the queen sacrifice every chess kid learns — was a Grünfeld. Give White the center, then chop it down.
