English Opening

A flexible flank opening where White fights for the centre from the side with c4, often fianchettoing and transposing into many structures. It is a favourite of positional players and can steer into reversed Sicilian setups.

• Control the centre from the flank with c4 and a g3 fianchetto
• Play a reversed Sicilian with an extra tempo after ...e5
• Keep maximum flexibility and transpose to favourable lines
• Manoeuvre patiently and exploit small positional edges
